I am an electronic musician, a sound engineer, and a travel photographer. I´ve been documenting daily life in some of the most exciting cities in Asia. Im also an historian focused on intangible heritage and cultures of past, present and future. I produce music using Korg´s Polysix and Minilogue synthesizers plus a trio of Elektron machines Digitone, Digitakt and Syntakt. Other gear sometimes joins this backbone set up like effects pedals Nux Cerberus, UAFX Orion and Heavenly and TC Electronic´s Echo Brain and Skysurfer. Other synths used in the past include Arturia Microfreak, Novation Circuit and Bass Station, Native Instruments Maschine, plenty of VSTi´s and Ableton Live. I like both the sound of digital and analog synthesis, the commodity of digital audio and the tone of vintage analogue equipment. Recordings are usually done straight to stereo in live takes but I also produce and mix multitrack versions of some compositions. I feel both methods bring something distinctive to the music and to the overall sound. The tracks tend to be long which I feel gives them the time to evolve and create the atmosphere. A song may start with a minimal sound design approach on either a chord or a note, and it can evolve from a beat which carries the rest of the arrangement. The idea is to immerse the listener and create a soundscape which evokes and stirs emotion. Themes of nostalgia, hope, longing, futurism, dystopia, nature, history and humanism are prevalent and what drives the creativity. Travel plays an important part in the process. Field recording and photography usually goes hand in hand with the music. I´m based in Lisbon.
